Summary of Environmental Control Case Studies in Large-Scale Livestock Farms: Performance Report on the Atomization Application of UFO Spray Discs in Pig, Poultry, and Cattle Barns

UFO Oxygen-Enriched Ion Spray Disc

Aogong Technical Department

Under large-scale livestock and poultry farming systems, high-density housing often suffers from excessive temperatures, ammonia buildup, pervasive dust, and the proliferation of pathogens. These issues not only increase the risk of heat stress and respiratory diseases in animals but also reduce feed conversion efficiency, raise production losses, and drive up biosecurity costs—key challenges that hinder improvements in productivity and quality. The UFO oxygen‑enriched ion spray disc, a next‑generation intelligent environmental control device, combines micron‑level atomization with negative oxygen ion purification to deliver integrated cooling, dust removal, odor elimination, antibacterial action, and oxygen enrichment. It is suitable for pig, cattle, poultry, and other types of farms and has already been widely adopted across major large‑scale breeding operations throughout China.

The UFO oxygen‑enriched ion spray disc features a suspended flying‑saucer‑style design, making it ideal for installation in the upper areas of livestock housing without occupying valuable floor space. A single unit can effectively cover a rearing area of 80–100 m². Utilizing clean‑water atomization technology, the device transforms water into ultrafine droplets measuring 5–10 microns; these lightweight droplets evaporate readily, leaving no moisture on the animals’ bodies or on bedding materials. Equipped with a built-in negative‑ion generator, the system continuously releases high‑concentration negative ions, which actively capture airborne dust and neutralize harmful odors such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, while disrupting the survival environment of bacteria and viruses—delivering both air purification and antibacterial disinfection.

In addition, the equipment is equipped with an intelligent temperature-control system that automatically starts and stops according to the set temperature, maintaining stable humidity in the barn within the optimal range of 65%–75%. It also offers multiple functions, including cooling, oxygen enrichment, deodorization, and antibacterial protection.

(1) Application Cases in Pig Farms

A large-scale pig farming base in the Central China region ( A standardized pig farm under Muyuan Group), The farm covers a total rearing area of 8,000 m², including finishing barns, nursery facilities, and quarantine pens, with a live pig inventory of 6,000 head. During the summer’s high-temperature periods, indoor temperatures often exceed 32°C, making pigs highly susceptible to heat stress, which manifests as reduced feed intake, slowed growth, and diminished immune function. Meanwhile, the high stocking density results in ammonia concentrations that surpass regulatory limits, leading to frequent respiratory diseases in piglets and a relatively high culling rate.

The pig farm has fully implemented the UFO oxygen‑enriched ion‑spray disc environmental control system, employing a high‑altitude pipe‑laying, suspended‑mounting configuration. One spray disc is installed per 90 m², with comprehensive coverage across all rearing barns and quarantine areas. The equipment operates in an intelligent, automated mode: when the ambient temperature reaches or exceeds 29°C, the misting system automatically activates for cooling, while negative ions continuously purify the air. Disinfection is carried out twice daily on a scheduled basis, with particularly frequent misting in the isolated sick‑pig area to prevent cross‑contamination of pathogens.

After two months of routine operation, the pig farm’s rearing environment and production metrics have improved significantly: pen temperatures are stably maintained at 26–28°C, completely resolving heat stress in pigs; average daily feed intake has increased by 8%, and feed conversion efficiency has risen markedly. The negative-ion purification system achieves removal rates of over 90% for ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, while dust concentrations have dropped substantially, reducing the incidence of respiratory diseases in piglets by 35% and boosting overall pig survival rates by 4.2%. Additionally, the equipment’s humidity-control function has eliminated issues of dampness in the pens and mold growth in bedding materials.

(II) Application Cases in Poultry Farms

In a smart-layer‑hen farming complex in Guangdong, with a total rearing area of 6,000 m², a tiered cage‑rearing system is employed, housing 80,000 hens. Poultry are highly susceptible to respiratory diseases; under high‑density cage conditions, inadequate ventilation, dust accumulation, and excessive ammonia levels can readily trigger bronchitis, air sacculitis, and other ailments. Meanwhile, high‑temperature environments lead to reduced egg production, an increase in cracked eggs, and higher culling rates—key challenges in layer‑hen farming.

In 2025, the farm will undertake a comprehensive upgrade of its livestock‑housing system, deploying UFO oxygen‑enriched ion‑spray panels across the entire premises. Tailored to the high‑density conditions of cage farming, the equipment will be densely installed to ensure full, dead‑angle‑free coverage of both the upper and lower levels of the chicken houses. During routine operations, the system will activate an anion‑purification mode to continuously break down ammonia and settle airborne dust; during periods of high temperature, it will automatically initiate mist‑based cooling, while scheduled low‑frequency spraying provides disinfection—gentle antibacterial action that avoids inducing stress in the flock.

Following system implementation, the improvements in poultry farming have been highly encouraging: dust concentrations in the chicken house have decreased by 85%, ammonia levels have been consistently maintained within safe limits, and the incidence of respiratory diseases among the flock has dropped by 40%. During the summer heat, house temperatures remain stable and meet regulatory standards, completely eliminating heat stress in laying hens, boosting egg production by 5%, and significantly reducing the proportion of cracked and soft‑shelled eggs, thereby markedly enhancing egg quality. Moreover, the equipment’s antibacterial properties effectively suppress harmful microbial populations in the house, decreasing the frequency of veterinary drug use and cutting disease‑prevention costs by 20%.

(3) Application Cases in Cattle Farms

At a large beef cattle farm in northern China, with a 5,000-square-meter facility and a herd of 1,200 head, the cattle—being large-bodied and slow to dissipate heat—are highly susceptible to heat stress, loss of appetite, and slowed weight gain under high-temperature conditions. Moreover, the barn generates substantial manure, resulting in strong odors and significant dust levels, which not only hinder cattle growth but also pose risks of disease transmission. Previously, the farm relied on fan‑forced ventilation for cooling, which only circulated air near the surface, delivering poor cooling performance and failing to address odor or dust control. As a result, during the summer months, the cattle’s average daily weight gain fell well below industry standards.

To optimize the farming environment and enhance production efficiency, the farm has strategically deployed a UFO oxygen‑enriched ion‑spray system. Leveraging the barns’ relatively high ceilings, the system is installed at elevated fixed locations to provide comprehensive coverage across all barns, feeding areas, and exercise zones. By capitalizing on the rapid evaporation and heat‑absorption properties of ultrafine mist droplets, it achieves uniform cooling throughout the entire facility. At the same time, the system harnesses the adsorption and decomposition effects of negative oxygen ions to continuously purify barn air, break down harmful gases emitted by manure, and settle airborne farming dust.

Following the implementation of the project, remarkable results have been achieved in livestock farming: during periods of summer heat, barn temperatures consistently drop by 3–5°C, completely eliminating heat stress and heatstroke in beef cattle and significantly boosting feed intake; unpleasant odors in the pens are markedly reduced, air quality is substantially improved, and lung and respiratory diseases are virtually eliminated; the equipment produces fine mist droplets that do not accumulate or wet the cattle’s skin and coat, thereby preventing skin disorders and foot rot caused by damp conditions, leading to a substantial enhancement in the overall health of the cattle.
